I have the notion that many Brazilians are able to create a connection to their life, their body and their friends which in other cultures I have never experienced before. When I started living in Brazil something in my body got fulfilled which had been missing ever before since I can think.

Brazil is changing a lot at the moment. There are too many poor people, too much corruption and crime, but the situation is improving. The Brazilian culture is very americanized in certain ways and there is influence from Europe, of course. A lot of people I got to know seemed to be suspicious of the American culture. The more informed in politics and economy they were the more suspicious they seemed. Ana, a good friend of mine (my Blog has her last name "Kamayura". Kamayura is an indian tribe in Brazil)is definitely a critic of that kind. She refused to talk English at all, the only word I ever heard her saying in English was "duck".(She knows that from Donald Duck, of course) The educational standard, especially in poor areas, is very low. This is the other reason why Ana doesn´t speak English like many other teenagers.
Ana Kamayurá was one of the people introducing me incredibely well into her culture, though we weren´t able to understand each other at the beginning of my stay. Well, I guess we understood each other nonverbally.
The Brazilian music is great, it´s crazy, it tells a lot.
- Maria Rita (daughter of Elis Regina)
- Maria Gadú --> "Tudo diferente" "Shimbalaie" "Baba Baby"
- Adoniran Barbosa --> I like any of his musics! "Trem das onze" is the best known, it´s Samba "Tiro ao álvaro"
- Chico Buarque --> "Construcão", "Cotidiano", "A banda" "calice" (about the dictatorship of the military in the 70s and 80s in Brazil)
- Caetano Veloso
- Gilberto Gil --> " Esperando na janela", "Pipoca moderna", "Expresso 2222" " Back in Bahia"
- Tom Zé --> a little bit different to the others, but great! Good to start with! " Jimmy, Renda-Se", "Ma", "Toc", "Doi"
- Vinicius de Moraes --> "Garota de Ipanema" (well known song), "Mora na filosofia"
- Elis Regina
- Jorge Ben --> "Mas, que nada", "Chove, Chuva", "Vem, morena, vem"
- MC Racionais --> Rap, Hip Hop, good lyrics
- Bicho de Pé --> that band gave a great Forró concert in Munich this week! "a vida vai", "eu só quero ver"
- Tribalistas --> quite modern "MPB"- music (Música Popular Brasileira) "Velha infância", "Já sei namorar", "Passe em casa"
Hey you !
AntwortenLöschenI've just discovered your blog (with the link in your email ^^) and I already like it!
I'll hear this music tonight when I'm home! It's great because I have a playlist (on Spotify) with old and new music from Latin America and I wanted more songs from Brasil (I actually only have Jorge Ben on it) :)
big thanks,
Hamza
